Experts fear that H5N1, which was only first detected in cows a few weeks ago, may have been transmitted through a type of cattle feed called “poultry litter” – a mix of poultry excreta, spilled feed, feathers, and other waste scraped from the floors of industrial chicken and turkey production plants. - Telegraph
Court lifts EU sanctions on Russian billionaires Fridman and Aven: The court believes that “although the grounds put forward by the [European] Council may be such as to establish, as the case may be, a degree of proximity between Petr Aven and Mikhail Fridman and Vladimir Putin or his entourage, they do not demonstrate that they have supported actions or policies that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, or that they have provided material or financial support to the Russian decision-makers responsible for the annexation of Crimea or the destabilisation of Ukraine, or that they have benefited from those decision-makers.”…Fridman and Aven join a slowly growing list of oligarchs that have been removed from the sanctions list.
One of the surprises from the new World Bank data is that it predicts Russia, which is currently the fifth largest economy in the world after overtaking Germany last summer, will overtake Japan this year to become the fourth largest economy, worth $5.9 trillion. That will also push Germany down the ranking even further to seventh place, after Indonesia also overtook Germany in size last year. The Asian country was worth $5.1 trillion at the end of 2023. - BNE

US officials probe new whistleblower claims against Boeing: Salehpour, who has worked at Boeing as an engineer for more than a decade, alleges that the aircraft maker took shortcuts in the production of the 787 Dreamliner, resulting in sections of fuselages being improperly fastened together. He has also alleged witnessing safety problems in the production of the 777, including cases of workers jumping on misaligned parts to get them to fit together…“Rather than heeding his warnings, Boeing prioritised getting the planes to market as quickly as possible, despite the known, well-substantiated issues Mr. Salehpour raised.
Ha. That’s one false step for man . . .
Not that disappointed that I’m not on this week’s list of lifted sanctions, but keep me posted. More alarming is what they’re scraping off the floor for school lunch. Boeing workers that jump on parts to make them fit, however, encourages me. The urban tale which I believe is that the MIG fighter was as successful as it was because it could emergency land in a farmer’s field and the pilot and farmer could fix it with tools and spare parts from the machine shed. And who thinks, after seventy years, that we could still land a man on the moon?
