For all the talk of a racial reckoning within major industries, Nike’s main problem is this: It’s a company built on masculinity, most specifically Michael Jordan’s alpha dog brand of it. Now, due to its own ambitions, scandals, and intellectual trends, Nike finds masculinity problematic enough to loudly reject. - Nike

Homebuilders are purposely delaying selling homes, and it's intensifying the housing crisis
You’re an institution (congrats btw). You no longer get decent yields lending people money, because it’s so cheap. However, you now have access to debt cheaper than any regular person can get, and home prices are primed to rise. What do you do? You buy the fucking homes before regular people can. Does that mean home prices will forever rise, with institutions buying the dip? This has only existed for a decade, so we don’t fully know what issues are forming. Institutions are increasingly willing to bet that’s the case though. If they’re right, they collect rental yields higher than fixed incomes. The government will also try to prop up home prices. If they’re wrong, they collect your taxpayer-funded bailout. Algorithmically buying every home under a threshold is going to push prices higher. Having a buyer take 15% of inventory is also going to push home prices higher. Everyone understands supply and demand, until they don’t like what it shows.
Single Family Rentals (SFR). Now, your potential lower to middle class home owner is positioned to be a permanent renter. This matters because for the lower and middle class owning a home is the most major part of any financial success, and future upward mobility. This is wealth redistribution, and it ain’t rich people’s wealth that’s getting redistributed. It’s normal American middle class, salt of the earth wealth heading into the hands of the worlds most powerful entities and individuals. The traditional financial vehicle gone forever.

The year is 2021. We have a blockchain. The blockchain contains not just a powerful decentralized finance ecosystem, but also a rapidly growing suite of all kinds of non-financial tools. The blockchain also presents us with a unique opportunity to reset social norms. Uber legitimized surge pricing where decades of economists yelling about "efficiency" failed; surely, blockchains can also be an opportunity to legitimize new uses of mechanism design. And surely, instead of fiddling around with a coarse-grained one-dimensional strategy space of selling at market price versus below market price (with perhaps a second dimension for auction versus fixed-price sale), we could use our more advanced tools to create an approach that more directly solves the problems, with fewer side effects? - Vitalik.ca
Spokeswoman for the US embassy in Hanoi said in a Tuesday statement: "Earlier this evening, the Vice President's traveling delegation was delayed from departing Singapore because the Vice President's office was made aware of a report of a recent possible anomalous health incident in Hanoi, Vietnam. After careful assessment, the decision was made to continue with the Vice President's trip."
Bizarre and ambiguous as it sounds, CNN and others are already off and running with potential cloak and dagger theories which tend to center on the Russians:
That term is the way that the government usually refers to the mysterious Havana syndrome that has sickened hundreds of US officials over the past few years.
The intelligence community still doesn't have an official explanation for Havana syndrome, which is a perplexing mix of sensory experiences and physical symptoms that have now sickened hundreds of US diplomats, spies and troops around the globe -- some severely enough to force their retirement.
Progressive liberals are, of course, horrified by (such) populist racism. However, a closer look reveals how their multicultural tolerance and respect of differences share with those who oppose immigration the need to keep others at a proper distance. "The others are OK, I respect them," the liberals say, "but they must not intrude too much on my own space. The moment they do, they harass me – I fully support affirmative action, but I am in no way ready to listen to loud rap music." What is increasingly emerging as the central human right in late-capitalist societies is the right not to be harassed, which is the right to be kept at a safe distance from others. A terrorist whose deadly plans should be prevented belongs in Guantánamo, the empty zone exempted from the rule of law; a fundamentalist ideologist should be silenced because he spreads hatred. Such people are toxic subjects who disturb my peace. - The Guardian 2010
